Alan Rubinstein’s Music Studio

Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra. New Member Auditions for the 2010 - 2011 season of the Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra will take place on August 21 and 28 and September 3, at CCBC Catonsville, Fine and Performing Arts Building, Q121. Audition information is on their website www.myso.info. The orchestra will be starting its 47th season conducted by its founder Angelo Gatto. The orchestra provides the opportunity for talented young musicians to learn and perform major symphonic repertoire. .

Olenka School of Music, with classes in Columbia, Maple Lawn, Ellicott City, Mt. Airy and Damascus, offers year-round music education to families from infancy through adulthood. Their experiential music curriculum embraces the whole-person approach to learning. Playtime Piano Instruction.  Piano lessons for ages 4 1/2 and up. At A Playtime Piano they believe in a holistic approach to piano/keyboard lessons. BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown.  BlackRock is committed to providing the community with the high quality, professional arts education.  Throughout the year BlackRock will offer enriching arts classes and workshops.  Classes are offered for children, teen and adults. Chesapeake Center for the Creative Arts, 194 Hammonds Lane, Brookyn Park, a 58,000 sq. ft. multi-discipline arts facility houseing a 904-seat Hammonds Lane Theatre, a 110-seat Studio 194 Theatre, gallery space, ceramics lab, dance studios, music room, resident artists' studios, scene-shop and classrooms. Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo MD, has a series of arts and crafts classes for children, teens and adults. Classes and workshops for children include dance and movement, theater, music, book arts, calligraphy, clay animation, drawing, painting and crafts, mixed media, film and animation,  printmaking, puppetry and textile arts. The Arts Council offers classes and workshops for children, teens, and adults.  Fall classes begin September 20, 2010 and run through November  20. Classes for young and young-at-heart artists alike include improvisational acting with a final class performance for family and friends in the Center’s black box theatre.  Kids can take classes in cartooning, sculpture, recycled art, and Sumi painting. New this year, “Mommy/Daddy and Me Halloween Mask Making”, where family pairs can construct and decorate masks together in a fun environment.  Classes for adults include explorations in watercolor, oil, plein air pastels, embroidery, and photography.  Ongoing weekly drop-in sessions for drawing and painting from portrait and life models are also available. No Boundaries theatre program for young adults with disabilities begins in September in partnership with Howard County Recreation and Parks; Call 410-313-7275 for registration information.  Several private instructors, artists and organizations offer classes in the visual and performing arts at HCCA.  The Center is open to the public Monday to Thursday 9am – 10pm, Friday 9am – 8pm, Saturday 10am – 4pm and Sunday 12 – 4pm..

Maryland Hall For The Creative Arts, 801 Chase Street, Annapolis. Art classes in a variety of media are offered to children and adults. Children's classes include arts and crafts, ceramics, dance, drama, music, poetry and yoga, plus music lessons through the Peabody Institute. Classes are catered to both beginning or experienced artists looking to have fun, pick up a new hobby, or brush up on skills. Discounts for all classes are offered to seniors and college students with IDs. See their website for upcoming classes. In addition they have Bright StARTS which offers workshops taught by professional artist/educators in a wide variety of artistic disciplines and media. These disciplines include; painting, drawing, sculpture, drama, dance, music, spoken word and poetry. Since 2003, the Bright StARTS Art Program began servicing Baltimore City students through after-school programs.  The workshops are primarily designed for children ages 7 – 13, although throughout the program year (October – June) several special programs are offered for teens 14 – 19 and younger children 5 – 6.  The vast majority of students served in the Bright StARTS Art Program are residents from low – moderate income, communities in Baltimore City.
