Children's Daytime Celebrations | Family Evening Celebrations

MIDNIGHT NOON, Thursday, December 31, 10:00am-2:00pm,: Maryland Science Center, 601 Light Street, Baltimore, MD 21230.  Does the Ball Drop before your Bedtime? Not this year! Join the Maryland Science Center in its 2nd annual New Year's Eve celebration at Noon–Midnight Noon. Get your face painted, make your own party hat and noisemaker and get ready to dance the day away to the sounds of popular kids band–Milkshake as they take the stage at 11:30am. Crafts will be available for you to create from 10am-2pm while supplies last. Stop in to see the Three Not So Little Pigs puppet show presented by the Blue Sky Puppet Theatre, show times will be available at 11am and 1pm. The entire Science Center will be open and ready for you to explore. All activities are FREE with paid admission, and free to members. NEW YEAR’S EVE ANNAPOLIS, Bring 2010 into Port, the December 31, 2009, Celebration! New Year’s Annapolis is a celebration of the arts and community! Enjoy a safe, family orientated environment featuring a diverse and entertaining schedule of events throughout the City. Window performances, interactive venues and live musical entertainment will showcase Annapolis’ historic ability to bring a community together in the spirit of the arts. Activities for children will begin at the City of Annapolis' Recreation Center at 3 p.m. Ongoing multicultural crafts (downstairs) include: Chinese yo-yo's, Adinkra stamping, paper crowns, noise makers, & fortune tellers. And there will be Hispanic New Year's Eve traditions from around the world: The Old Year effigy - a life-sized dummy that is stuffed with personal regrets and shortcomings, 12 raisins or grapes popped in your mouth for each chime of the midnight bell (symbolizing 12 sweet months to come), carrying a suitcase around the room (symbolizing travels in the coming year), baking a bread (play dough) with a coin in it - then cutting the bread in 12ths (the one with the coin will have prosperity), and ending with bashing of the piñata (with miniature raisin boxes inside!). Big Vanilla's climbing wall will be set up on City Dock from 5 - 11 p.m. Throughout the afternoon and evening, master ice sculptors from Trimps Ice Art will work their magic. Each performance venue will be marked by an ice sculpture. Enjoy TWO fireworks displays: An early family fireworks display at 7:30 for families with little ones and traditional midnight fireworks to ring in the New Year. The event badges that grant you admission are only $13 for adults if purchased by December 26, $15 if purchased December 27-30; $10 for seniors and kids over age 5 if purchased by December 26, $12 if purchased December 27-30. Children under age 5 will be admitted free. Badges will be available at Giant Food stores for $13 and $10 through December 31. All venues are handicapped accessible. BALTIMORE PORTS AMERICA NEW YEAR’S EVE SPECTACULAR, Baltimore Inner Harbor, December 31, 9pm. Ring in 2010 alongside family and friends with music and fireworks at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Enjoy dynamic live music and non-stop fun at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater located at Pratt and Light streets.  The fireworks display is the largest in the region- turning the sky over the Inner Harbor into a multitude of colors. The fireworks are choreographed to music. FALL CHURCH VIRGINIA WATCH NIGHT, December 31, 7pm – midnight. Bring in the New Year with the annual, free, New Year's Eve "Watch Night" celebration held from 7 p.m. to midnight near the crossroads of Broad and Washington streets. The celebration is cosponsored by the City of Falls Church and the Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation. "Watch Night" is named after the ancient African tradition of "watching" in the New Year. A range of entertainment offerings appeals to adults, children, families, and individuals looking for fun small-town festivities. Children's entertainment includes magicians, storytelling, face painting, and the Moon Bounce. Children, teenagers and adults can show their skills on the karaoke stage or at digital dance revolution. Live music and City restaurants are open for business within the entertainment center. No reservations required. For those driving into the City, plan to park a few blocks away in public lots or along the street. Free parking is available at the Presbyterian Church (200 block of East Broad Street).

FIRST NIGHT LEESBURG, VIRGINIA, Thursday, December 31. First Night Performances: 6:00pm - 11:45pm Grand Illumination at Courthouse: 11:45pm – Midnight. First Night Leesburg will host over 100 wonderful performances at 20 indoor locations in downtown Leesburg, all within walking distance of one another. Come and enjoy jazz, classical music, puppet shows, bluegrass, folk music, magicians and much more! First Night concludes at midnight with a traditional Grand Illumination gathering on the courthouse green. Everyone will receive a candle, pass the flame to their neighbor and sing in the New Year as the old courthouse bell rings the last twelve chimes to midnight. First Night Leesburg is a family oriented, alcohol-free celebration with entertainment coordinated by the Bluemont Concert Series. FIRST NIGHT TALBOT, 6pm – Midnight, Easton MD. It's the biggest New Year's Eve party in the Midshore Area! Come join the fun at a family-oriented, alcohol free celebration of the year past and the year to come. Downtown Easton will be transformed into a huge performance center with musicians, dancers and actors taking the stage at 7 different venues. One admission button will get you into all of the different sites. Price is $10 for adults, $5 for students and are available at the Easton Resource Center, 11 S Harrison St, Easton.
