ATHOLTON HIGH SCHOOL – HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING, Thurs-Sat March 4-6 at 7:30pm and Sunday, March 7 at 3pm, 6520 Freetown Road in Columbia, Maryland  21044.  This Pulitzer Prize-winning musical ran on Broadway for over 1400 performances! The minimally animated illustrations are accompanied by illustrator/songwriter Morgan Taylor's catchy and original story-songs for a truly different multimedia experience that entrances children, teens and adults alike. HARMONY HALL REGIONAL CENTER – KIDS’ DAY OUT: THE SPILLING INK PROJECT—Katha: Tales from India, Wednesday, April 7, 10:30 am. Katha: Tales from India introduces students to two forms of South Indian classical dance, Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. The program uses the universal concept of storytelling to engage students in the dance forms, which communicate specific stories from Indian folklore and mythology. Students will learn about the visual components of the program, including facial expressions and hand gestures, that are used to tell the story. Furthermore, they’ll learn about the aural aspects of the program, including the rhythms of the music and how they are matched by the footwork, which is enhanced by bells worn by the dancers. Parilla Performing Arts Center, Rockville Campus presents JIGSAW JONES – THE CASE OF THE CLASS CLOWN, An ARTSPOWER Presentation, Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. Athena Lorenzo has been slimed and she doesn’t think it’s very funny. Someone in Ms. Gleason’s class is playing practical jokes and it’s up to Theodore “Jigsaw” Jones to solve the case. Along with his friend Mila, Jigsaw, who claims to be the first detective in the whole school, investigates the sliming and tracks down the class clown. This could be their stickiest case yet. Based on the book Jigsaw Jones: The Case of the Class Clown by James Preller, this wonderful musical will have audiences laughing and thinking as they learn the secret codes that Jigsaw must decipher to solve the mystery. Acclaimed composer Nathaniel Stookey brings his uproarious collaboration with best-selling children's writer Lemony Snicket to the Kennedy Center. What's the difference between composing and decomposing?  That's a mystery for the inspector to figure out in The Composer Is Dead, a gripping whodunit that makes every member of the Orchestra a suspect in their composer's untimely finale. Acclaimed composer Nathaniel Stookey brings his uproarious collaboration with best-selling children's writer Lemony Snicket, which engages listeners to join the inspector as he interrogates the entire symphonic arrangement regarding their whereabouts at the time of the crime. Starting with the strings and working his way to the percussion, the inspector finds sound alibis and dead ends down every sonic avenue. But one thing's for sure: nobody is leaving the Concert Hall until this mystery is solved! Tickets are $18.
Come early for the Musical Instrument "Petting Zoo." An hour before each NSO Family Concert, young concertgoers can get up close and hands-on with the instruments they'll see played on the stage--from violins, trumpets, and oboes to trombones and percussion--in the Kennedy Center Atrium.  Stay after the 3 p.m. concerts for a Kids' Chat. Following the 3 p.m. concert, young audience members can ask questions and hear engaging stories in an up-close-and-personal talk with the concert artists.

NATIONAL ZOO WILD SIDE STAGE. This winter, Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) will present Wild Side Stage, a new performance series for children. Families are invited for shows by acclaimed, award-winning musicians, dancers, storytellers, and puppeteers from around the country. Wild Side Stage performances will take place in the National Zoo's Visitor Center Auditorium on Sundays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Before or after each performance, (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.), guests can visit certain animal exhibits for the chance to meet animal keepers as well as the ‘real’ animals featured in the performances!   Tickets are $5 for FONZ members, $7 for nonmembers. Adults and children ages two and older require tickets. Children under two will be admitted free with a parent. Professor Horn’s Punch & Judy Show, April 3. Children's Royal Variety Entertainment! An ornate Victorian stage and a time-honored script and antique wooden puppets, painstakingly carved and hand painted in England, appear, under the direction of "Professor Horn," who also performs amazing feats of legerdemain and plays merry melodies on a vintage hand-cranked hurdy-gurdy.

Kidsinger Jim & Friends present “Zoo In My Room,” which tells the story of a singing farmer and his family of barnyard animals that was formed through adoption. The cast includes Kidsinger Jim and his catchy songs, former Ringling Bros. clown “Guitar Greg” May, puppeteer Wendy Gigglesmith, and the barnyard animal puppets. The Jungle Book, March 14 at 3:00 pm and March 15 at 10:00 am. Where else can you have a magical drama experience about kindness, cooperation, respect and diversity while enjoying talking animals, good humor, music from India and stomp action? Come out and enjoy the student-led musical production that includes students ranging in age from preschool through ninth grade. Audience members will be invited to interact with the student actors and participate on stage in drama games before the performance, and to question the actors at the end of the performance. This is a wonderful opportunity to share important lessons about appreciation of differences, caring and respect by students reaching out to the community.
